LOWER BACK PAIN & SCIATICA
Lower back pain can have many causes, from herniated discs to muscle spasms. Often a proper clinical diagnosis by a physician is required.
Symptoms include acute onset of back pain, back stiffness, nerve pain “shooting” down the legs and numbness in the buttocks or the lower legs
Treatment can involve a range of therapies and rehabilitation exercises, as well as assistive bracing and injections for pain relief.
TRIGGER FINGERS - A TREATABLE NUISANCE
Trigger finger results from a swollen tendon with the tendon sheath. This is commonly related to overuse and inflammation.
Symptoms include swelling or a nodule in the palm, pain on bending the finger, and a “snapping” sensation on extending the finger.
Treatment can include anti-inflammatory medications, finger splinting, steroid injections and lastly, minor surgery.
A PAIN IN THE NECK
With the advent of the “desk job”, there are more and more cases of neck and shoulder pains related to poor ergonomics in the work place.
Symptoms of stiff neck after work, numbness in the limbs, shooting pains down the arms are relatively common complaints.
Many of these symptoms can be cured with an appropriate clinical examination and diagnosis coupled with the
appropriate treatment options, including neck braces and rehabilitation exercises, as well as nerve supplements.
Tennis Elbows & Carpal tunnel Syndromes
A common nerve condition among office workers and home-makers, Carpal Tunnel syndrome involves compression of the median nerve in the wrist joint.
Symptoms include numbness at the tips of fingers, as well as weakness on gripping.
Treatment ranges from wrist bracing to medication, nerve supplements and injections. Surgery is also an option.
TENNIS ELBOW
Tennis elbow is usually the result of chronic overuse of the elbow joint, causing the tendons (which join the bone and muscles together) to become inflamed. Despite its name, it is a common condition in many people.
Symptoms include tenderness on the outside of the elbow, functional difficulty in carrying objects ( due to the pain), and swelling.
Treatment includes rehabilitation, elbow braces and medication, including steroid injections.
KNEE PAINS, SPRAINS, STRAINS AND SWELLINGS
There are many potential causes of knee pain, ranging from osteoarthritis in the elderly, to common traumatic injuries such as meniscal cartilage tears or ligament sprains in the young and active. Other common conditions that can contribute to knee pain include knee- cap instability and chronic overuse.
Knee pain and knee conditions are not an easy subject for any doctor to handle. It is important to find an expert who has a keen interest in the subject. He/she should be willing to take time to fully examine all aspects of the knee, as well as to get a comprehensive history of your knee pain and function.
